Mrs. Kardadi's Math Class
Welcome to Mrs. Kardadi’s Math class!
Dear Parent(s),
I will be your child’s 6th grade math teacher. I am very excited to teach your child and work with you to create a successful school year.
I grew up in Addison and attending Wesley, Indian Trail Junior High, and Addison Trail High School. I graduated from Elmhurst College, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science with a Middle School Math endorsement, following my life long goal to teach. Last year, I graduated with my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an additional ESL (English Second Language) endorsement. I have been teaching in District #4 since 2000.
I have 3 children ages 19, 14, and 11. I currently live in Plainfield with my husband and 3 daughters. The drive to work is an adventure. However, I wouldn’t want to work any place else.
I look forward to meeting you and discussing your child’s academic growth throughout the year. Please feel free to contact me at #630-458-2539 or through the following email address [email protected]. Email is the best means to contact me and I will always do my best to get back to you as soon as possible.
Homework Expectations:
Homework will be assigned every day and is expected to be completed by the next day. Your child’s homework will always be a review of the lesson taught that day. The homework will prepare them for tests. Your child will receive a homework/behavior sheet for every 10 assignments. I will check for homework completion and all work MUST be shown on a daily basis. All assignments must be completed in pencil and graded in class with a red pen. I will stamp their homework/behavior sheet for each assignment that has met the expectations. I will collect the homework/behavior sheet after every 10 assignments. PLEASE check this sheet on a regular basis to make sure your child is keeping up with his/her assignments.
After the Homework/Behavior Log is assigned a grade on both sides, you will be REQUIRED to sign it. If this sheet is not returned the following day, it will result in a lower grade and will result in lunch detentions until it is returned.
Absences:
It is absolutely vital that students are at school every day. However, if an illness occurs and your child is absent, it is the student’s responsibility to find out what they missed during class and for homework. There is a homework board in the classroom that will tell them what they have missed. If there is an assignment that is not from the text, there will be a file organizer with the assignment in it. If your child has missed notes or a test, they may have to come in during lunch to make them up. If your child is absent for 3 or more days, a parent can call the office and request the homework. The office is open until 3:30 and the homework can be picked up any time before that.
Behavior Expectations:
My goal this year is to create a classroom in which all students can be successful learners. In order to accomplish this goal, there are some basic rules that need to be followed by everyone.
Classroom Rules:
1. Be safe (Some examples: fighting, running in the hallways, etc.
2. Be respectful (Some examples: Raise your hand, listening, etc.)
3. Be responsible (Some examples: Be on time, bring homework, bring supplies, etc)
These rules apply anywhere on school grounds and also as students are walking home.
If your child does not choose to follow these rules, the following consequences will result:
1. The student will be given a verbal warning.
2. The student will lose a point off of their behavior/homework log sheet. (I will attach an example of it to this note.). Please check these sheets often! A parent signature is required after every 10 assignments. These points will affect their homework and behavior grades. They will be entered online and you can view them.
3. If the behavior continues, the student will receive a lunch detention and must complete additional work/reflection sheet. A parent will be required to sign this additional work/reflection sheet.
4. If the behavior continues, I will call or email home to conference with a parent.
***A student whose behavior is severe, disruptive, or harmful to others will be removed from the class immediately and sent to the Dean's office. They would get a Major referral with an appropriate consequence.
Following these three simple rules will create a good learning environment for every student. Please read and discuss these rules and consequences carefully as a family.
Positive Rewards: Students will receive Gotchas, Project Pride $, raffle prizes that include treats or reward coupons (For example: NO homework pass, sit by a friend, etc.)
Supplies:
It is important for students to be prepared for class every day. Your child must have the following items with them in class at all times.
1. Several pencils sharpened with erasers
2. Red pen
3. Blue spirals (2 of them: one for 1st/2nd quarter and another for 3rd/4th quarter)
4. Markers/Colored pencils
5. Glue bottle
6. Scissors
7. Blue folder
*Calculators, rulers, etc. may remain in your lockers unless told otherwise.
Curriculum:
Our Math curriculum will be based on the Common Core State Standards in math. In the general 6th grade math curriculum, we will be learning about ratios, the number system, expressions and equations, geometry, and probability/statistics. In the pre-algebra curriculum, we will be learning about rational numbers and exponents, proportionality and linear relationships, an introduction to sampling and inference, and finally creating/comparing/analyzing geometric figures.
Academics (Grades):
Students will be assessed on common core standards, behavior, and homework. Your child will receive 3 separate grades each quarter on their SLP (Student Learning Profile).
ME: Meeting with Excellence
Wow=Exemplary, Exceptional, High Quality, In-Depth, Superb, Outstanding |
MS: Meeting Standards

AC-Area of Concern

Assessments:
Students will be given an assessment at the end of each chapter or unit of study. If your child receives an AC, they may have the opportunity to review the content again at home and then retake a similar test at lunch. The student must complete a “request to retest” form along with proof of extra practice, which they have completed, to prepare for the retake.
